| KookySHENZHEN, CHINA: On September 1st, a Singaporean woman held a wedding-cum-funeral for her deceased lover at a funeral parlor in Shenzhen.
According to the Chinese media, the funeral parlor’s master of ceremonies officiated at the wedding. 50-year-old bride Anna had on a white veil while the deceased groom Zhao Guohua (name transliterated) lay in his coffin. In addition, the couple’s wedding photo was hung up on display, a sight which passersby commented on in hushed whispers
To the question: “Miss Anna, are you willing to wed Zhao Guohua, be his wife and love him forever?”, Anna replied “I will.” However, her “husband” remained silent, since he had passed away more than 7 months ago.
The master of ceremonies announced: “First, pay obeisance to Heaven and Earth, then pay obeisance to the guests and each other.” After Anna finished paying obeisance to her husband, she flung herself onto his body and began weeping.
After that, staff replaced the wedding photo with a portrait of the deceased, and the master of ceremonies announced the beginning of the farewell ceremony.
At the end of the ceremony, Anna straightened out her “husband’s” clothes, kissed him on the hands and face and then closed the lid of the coffin, which was then sent into an incinerator and cremated.
A total of 7 guests attended the wedding/funeral. The parents of both the bride and the groom did not attend. Relatives from both families had objected to Anna and Zhao being together. Zhao had fallen out with his family, and his elder brother Zhao Guolin (name transliterated) called the wedding a farce.
